Moving on once more, after four days in Everett I am heading up towards the Canadian border, I am planning to stay in an area called “Deception Pass”, situated on a rocky headland right on the edge of Puget Sound, and as usual, try and squeeze 35 feet of motor home in between tall trees using only mirrors, a black and white reversing camera and a little prayer, the camera sounds good but in black and white a shadow looks like a wall.
I considered crossing into Canada once more, but on speaking to neighbours I discovered customs had made them empty their freezer of meat etc, being a tight fisted Scot, I decided against going, I was not going to part with my stock of lovely steaks!
Well, I have gone as far north as I can go in America, I have now driven from the Mexican border to the Canadian border, I will now look for an interstate that will take me eastwards across three States towards Idaho, Montana and Wyoming.
To pick up this interstate I will have to return south to Seattle, to a KOA site which I tried to get into on my way north but it was full, I have phoned ahead on my trusty cell phone and booked a couple or three nights, I wanted to see Seattle, the coffee capital of the world, I believe it has more coffee shops than any other city anywhere.
As before, site offices in RV sites are a mine of information, they can offer and book most things, all part of the service, this time I booked myself a tour of Seattle for the next day, the van (minibus) arrived on the dot of 09-30 and we proceeded to have a very interesting day in this lovely city, ending up in a small park overlooking the city and the Seattle tower, all in all, a good day out and I was not driving, a 35 foot bus is no use for sightseeing, I always find you can learn so much more from an expert than from tramping around on your own.
Seattle is a major city and seaport located in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States, it is a large city with a population of around 602,000 people, it lies about 100 miles from the Canada/United States border, it is often referred to as “Gateway to Alaska” or Rain City. As mentioned earlier, Boeing is the big employer in the area, the Renton plant makes the 737 while the Everett plant build all the wide body 747,767,777 and now the 787 I came back south to Seattle both to see it but also to get on to route interstate 90 eastbound.
Leaving Seattle and the Pacific Ocean behind (I will not see the Pacific again ‘till I reach Oceanside, California, a long way off) I now head east into the unknown. Still in Washington, I spend three nights on a nice site in a lovely town called Cle Elum, not much to do, got a haircut, read some guide books and plan the next part of my journey, I am pleased to say my bus is running like clockwork.
From Cle Elum to my last night in Washington at Moses Lake, just an overnight stop, nothing worthy of mention.
