For a number of years I have had a wish to spend time touring the western United States.
While being in employment only allows the normal 2 – 3 week’s holiday at one time I had to wait until I retired at 65.
My idea is possible thanks to one of my sons being an American citizen, that allows me, with all the correct paperwork, to become a permanent resident with no time limit on my visit.
I left Glasgow early one cold, wet morning, flying firstly to Newark and onwards to San Diego California, arriving that evening in a lovely 75 degrees, quite a change from Glasgow.
The view from the glass-fronted terminal at San Diego is wonderful, looking over the bay, the marina and the huge cruise ships, the streets lined with tall palm trees.
My son was waiting to drive me the 65 or so miles to the city of Temecula where he and his family live.
I will be staying with him while I organise a lawyer to sort out all the required paperwork, my work permit, my National Insurance and my green card.
While waiting for everything to happen, which takes rather a long time, I started looking into what kind of vehicle I might be able to afford.
