Birds in California

My son had a pair of hummingbirds build a nest in a tree on his patio, they laid two eggs and brought up two chicks in the tiniest nest, it was lovely watching mum feed them sitting on a branch.

The larger birds that are common are red tail hawks (similar to our buzzard) turkey vultures and of course at the coast the ugly but graceful brown pelicans.
